Government paid charity to produce eco-town 'fact' leaflets

Gordon Brown's eco-towns scheme was embroiled in new controversy last night as a housing charity admitted it had been paid to produce information leaflets setting out the Government's case. Shelter, one of the few organisations backing the plan to build new towns in the English countryside, said it had been given £100,000 by the Government to publish a series of 13 pamphlets, one for each proposed eco-town site. Nice to see Gordon Brown diverting taxpayers money for government propaganda - he is a very desperate man! I would be most interested to know if Shelter have received any Lottery funding in the last few months?

So let me get this straight........
The government allow a housing 'crisis' to develop over a number of years through uncontrolled population growth and lack of investment in social housing. They then try and foist an unworkable 'eco town' policy on us in an attempt to be seen to be doing something about it, and con people into thinking they are 'Green'.
They then smear us as rich Nimby's for having the temerity to object, and say if we don't roll over the housing problem will be all our fault.
Then, finally, when their policy starts to unravel, they pile taxpayer's (i.e. our) money secretly into a front organisation to try and peddle their propaganda.
I wonder if the cabinet worry about housing shortages as they jet off to their second homes.
You couldn't make it up could you, or have I missed something? I am starting to get more than a little angry about this.

I have today written to the Chief Executive of SHELTER to express my anger at the way he is allowing the Charity to be used as a vehicle for government propaganda.
Watch this space.
